A sad irony of being an indian.

An irony about the reservations.

I spent around 8-10 hours everyday for three years trying to improve myself to compete with the best and managed to reach a college which is amongst top 10 in the country, where as some of my friends, who at that time were just loafing around, enjoying life are in better college than me despite of getting one-sixth marks of what i got, only because they belong to a certain caste.

And they are supposedly under-privileged people and me a suppressor of their rights.

PS: Edited to add the following link: Click here
Just read the experience of a fellow OBC guy at IIT on how the reservation is actually increasing casteism instead of removing it.

Hey!

I had a similar experience and penned it on a comment in some blog. I got a reply saying"

Dont use personal experience as evidence"!!!

It was shocking, because if our lives are not a reflection of what's happening in society then what is!!

Let's just hope common sense prevails

Yeah i have read your experience and reached your blog from there only.
It was really shocking how rude some people can get.I think only a person who has been through all these discrimination(or reverse racism) can actually feel empathy towards all.

Yeah it is shocking.Infact the steps taken by the government is increasing castism instead of removing it.
Just check out the link i have added at the end of the post to hear what one of my fellow SC guy at IIT has to say.

I think even people(politicians) who are supporting the move knows its irrational...but its just that they don't want to loose their vote bank that they are not opposing the move.
And the worst part of all this was our PM keeping num on the whole issue....was certainly not expecting this from a person who was key to reforming india in 91.

God knows what will happen to the economy now...specially if the quota is extented to even private sector.

u know viru, right from the first day,i have an appetitite to get in any top-10 b-schools of India..and last year,i had 3 converted calls,bt i dint take admission just to achieve my dreams...
bt i m thinking,if i wud have taken admission last year,i cud have saved myself form this cut-throat...
even i was not expecting this from our PM...it seems he has changed or the vote-bank has changed his mentality...

I can totally understand that coz even me did the same thing a couple of years ago.I am even more worried about my cousion who got a very low rank in JEE and has decided not to attend the AIEEE councelling to give another shot at IIT.

For me and you there are options with so many B-schools and companies to work...but i can hardly imazine the pressure which he or for that matter any engg/medical aspirant will face.
